The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, will visit Portland this May for a very special 4 day Environmental Summit is to promote awareness and individual responsibility regarding both the external and internal environment. Hosted by the first Buddhist college in the Pacific Northwest the conference will include enlightening teachings and conversations with His Holiness and distinguished local community members. Regional leaders participating in these events include: science broadcaster and environmental activist David Suzuki; Oregon Environmental Council Executive Director, Andrea Durbin; leading northwest politicians at the “Environmental Summit: Universal Responsibility and the Global Environment;” and Rabbi Michael Z. Cahana, Imam Mohammad Najieb, and representatives of Christian and Native American communities at the interfaith dialogue, “Spirituality and the Environment.”
The summit goes from Thursday May 9th to Sunday May 12th, 2013 at Maitripa College (1119 SE Market Street , Portland, OR). Tickets are on sale now. Thursday sessions are available online at Ticketmaster.com or by phone at 503-943-7525 or in person at the Chiles Center Box Office (11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday-Friday) located on University of Portland campus at 5000 N. Willamette Blvd and range from $15 – 175. Saturday sessions tickets are available at RoseQuarter.com, participating Safeway/TicketsWest locations, by phone at 877.789.ROSE (7673), and at the Rose Quarter Box Office (One Center Court, Suite 100, Portland, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday). Prices range from $21 – 1272.
A performance by the popular rock band the Red Hot Chili Peppers will conclude the summit on Saturday May 11th at 9:30 at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum (1401 North Wheeler Ave).
