welcome to Quality Inn portland blogPortland's Christmas Ships Parade
Evenings December 5 - 21, 2014
During December, you can celebrate the Christmas season along Portland's Columbia and Willamette Rivers. Last year, 59 skippers registered to join this fleet of extravagantly decorated ships. As each seafaring vessel passes, people gather to see this spectacular showcase of holiday lights and creative décor. Each year, new ships join in on the jolly fun. Other participants have been taking part in this beloved tradition for the past 20 years, complete with costumes. See majestic maritime displays, as ships of all sizes - some more than 50' long - float along the coast with festive flair.
This Portland parade has become a deeply rooted annual celebration drawing locals and visitors alike to watch and admire a memorable scene. A perfect occasion for family-friendly fun, kids of all ages marvel at this spectacular sight. Come out with the little ones, or enjoy a quiet, special evening with your significant other. The parade takes place near many of Portland's most premier restaurants so you can plan a perfect evening for two.
Undeterred by rain and snow, the ships set sail each evening once the sun has set and the sky is dark. Only severe weather will prevent the nightly procession from taking place. Christmas Ships will start on December 5th, when the combined fleet will assemble at 7 p.m. and head downriver to North Portland Harbor. You'll be able to catch a glimpse of the glittering lights and color in lots of different locations.
