Located above the Rose Garden in Washington Park, the Portland Japanese Garden is a beautiful, tranquil place to visit any time of year. When visitors first enter the garden, they should feel a sense of harmony and peace brought about by the surreptitiously careful placement of crucial garden elements- stone, plants, and water. Other essentials you'll find include pagodas, bridges, arbors, water basins, and stone lanterns- each object imbued with meaning beyond what you see. The Portland Japanese Garden is made up of 5 gardens- the Flat Garden, the Sand and Stone Garden, the Natural Garden, the Strolling Pond Garden, and the Tea Garden. Each, of course, features something different, and the names give a clue as to what to admire in particular. Tickets are $6.75 to $9.50. Children 5 and younger are free. Guided tours are included in the price of admission. The Garden is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.
