Washington Park is Portland, OR's green escape. This 400-acre park is home to trails, trees, and a number of wonderful attractions for all ages. Hiking, biking, and picniking are popular pastimes too. Kids will absolutely go bananas over the Portland Children's Museum, a hand-on funfest that combines art, science, and did we mention fun? Across from the museum is the Portland Zoo, another terrific place to take the family. See the new baby Asian elephant, born on Nov.30. And through Dec. 31, Zoolights is a special holiday display of colorful lights sculptures that shine each evening from 5 p.m. onward. Even the Zoo Train is lit up for the festivities. Perhaps the jewel in the Washington Park crown is the Rose Garden. Established in 1917, this stunningly landscaped garden is home to over 9,500 rose bushes and definitely contributes to Portland's title as the City of Roses.
