Portland’s Tom McCall Waterfront Park
What started in 1988 as small blues concert to help support the homeless in Portland, the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival has grown to be the 2nd-largest blues festival in the country. Benefiting the Oregon Food Bank, a hunger-relief organization that works eliminate hunger and its roots, the annual Waterfront Blues Festival offers four days of smoky, swinging and beat shaking blues at Tom McCall Waterfront Park on the shore of the Willamette River.
The 2013 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland will present incredible blues bands and musicians on four stages along Portland’s scenic waterfront, including Robert Plant Presents the Sensational Shape Shifters, North Mississippi Allstars, Mavis Staples, Taj Mahal Trio, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Nikki Hill and Allen Stone. For some hot late night blues, walk over to After Hours All-Stars concerts at the Marriott Hotel Ballroom, across from the festival, with music starting around 10:15 pm.
If you want to hear live blues in a more intimate setting, experience the DME Blues Cruise. Hear the blues on the Portland Spirit as you cruise the beautiful Willamette River. The DME Blues Cruises offers live music on the deck, an appetizer buffet and a full bar. The Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival will also present blues workshops, stripped down performances, jam sessions and children's activities at the FedEx Crossroads Stage.
Celebrating the Fourth of July, the Waterfront Blues Festival presents a thunderous fireworks show that lights up the Willamette River. The largest pyrotechnics display in Oregon is an exciting way to end the first night of blues and honor Independence Day.
