The largest holiday light show wet of the Mississippi celebrates its 20th anniversary on Thanksgiving Day 2012, as Winter Wonderland-Powered by Comcast illuminates the Portland International Raceway. Racing aficionados may recognize the raceway as one of the stops on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West circuit. The nearly two mile track has been hosting races since 1960. During Winter Wonderland-Powered by Comcast, the Portland International Raceway invites folks to cruise the track in the region’s largest drive-through holiday light display. A favorite among the animated displays, the 12 Days of Christmas features Santa flying down an 84 foot ski hill and reindeer flying right over your vehicle.
On November 26th, vehicles will not be allowed onto the track, as dog owners take part in the Doggie Walk. Even if you don’t have a pet, you can still take a stroll down the track. On December 3rd, bicyclists will also be able to enjoy the track sans motorized vehicles as well. There will be plenty of free parking for the non-motorized events. Admission is cash (or check) only, with prices depending on the type of vehicle. No tire chains are permitted on the track surface. Food donation barrels, benefiting Portland's Sunshine Division, will be located near the ticket booths. Several other special evening events will be planned, including convoy night, December 10th, featuring a lively parade of illuminated big rigs.
